On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2023, I join the world in calling an end to violence against women and girls in Uganda, Africa and globally.

Women have been subjected to violence in different places including those that felt like safe spaces – homes, conflict torn areas, and places of work. This is a pandemic and a human rights violation that happens every day and a vice affecting societies fatally.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN CONFLICT.

Violence against girls and women remains the most pervasive human rights violation in the world affecting 2 in 3 women. They experience physical, psychological and sexual violence worldwide, approximately 15 million adolescent girls are subjected to forced sex and over 45% experience sexual harassment globally.

The theme “Invest to Protect” calls upon all of stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at preventing and protecting women and girls against violence of all forms. Our investment can be through our time, through using our voice and through campaigns against violence against women.

I believe that we can end violence against women through activism and advocacy coupled with action for justice.

Let us stand together for a safe, healthy and harm free environment for women and girls.

I join the world in the #16 days of Activism against gender-based violence. Collectively we can advocate for an equitable world for all. Together we can.”
